In March 2012, GPB Global Resources initiated a special charity program for the Mali Chess Federation. The program seeks to encourage children of Mali to engage in the game of chess, as it has been proven to be important in the development of a person’s mind, and will be included in educational programs in the country.
The first step of the program took place on March 6, 2012. Sergey Baranov, head of African projects at GPB Neftegaz Services B.V., presented 10 chessboards to Ousmane Diakite, head of the Mali Chess Federation. The official ceremony was held at the Russian embassy in Bamako in the presence of H.E. Alexey Dulian, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Mali, and Tidiane Niambele, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Mali.
